Ten Sages of Olde

[King Syrus Warheight II]

There were once 10 sages that did great deeds in every corner of the world. Each of them sealed away the knowledge for which each of them was specifically famous for. These books were to be guarded by the members of each family that would follow as the descendants of each sage. Their most noted feat was sealing away the devil god, Kaos' most powerful general, Fortinbras. He was sealed inside the youngest member of the Warheight clan, led by the bravest of the sages, who was a fierce warrior, a skilled magician, and an excellent smith of all kinds of magical weapons. Ever since then, the heir to the throne of the kingdom for which the Warheight Sage founded soon after, would keep the burden of the sealed away daemon. Ever since then, the legends of the sages have fallen into lore, and names have changed along the lines of some of their families, hiding the truth from the very descendants themselves, only a few know the full story about their heritage.

But now, a new evil has presented itself in the form of the insane brother of the heir to the Warheight's throne. Sieg Warheight, jealous of his brother's ascention to the throne and the 'gift' of holding the daemon. He seeks to find all the books left behind by the sages and slay every one related to the Warheight clan so that he might have all the power of his family to himself, along with the throne of Algeroth, the Warheight's kingdom.

To each book there are less powerful 'volumes' which contain lesser powers, abilities, and stories. When referring to these books, call them ( Ex. Akvahr Protius V.II ) Also, some of the books are missing pages, and pages, or incomplete books can be found. Same with the volumes.

The tale of the first Wolf and Tiger, as told by the venerable shaman Haakarrath of the honored Geoith tribe.

In the time before history, when the world was still new and untouched by the tumultuous wars of times to come, the two great godbirds worked to shape and mold the lands, and populate them with creatures and plants. But the phoenix were not the only ones to be born unto world…

In the north, the Moon's gentle light fell upon the fertile Earth, and soon she became pregnant with a child, a great mountain rising out to tower over a range of such. One year later, on a clear night, the great mountain cracked asunder as the Moon and Stars bore witness, and from the ruins emerged a creature, first and greatest of his kind. Colossal he was, with limbs thicker than the mightiest sequoia and taller than the mountains amidst which he stood. Eyes of two colors did he possess, one blue as the cold Lake Toryn, the other gray as the stone from which he had been born. Shaking the dust out of a pelt like a granite-colored pine forest, he did sink to his haunches and throw back his muzzle, filled with silvery teeth, to let the first howl drift among the snow-filled forests, bathed as they were in the pale light of the Moon. Thus heralded the coming of Wolf.

In the south, the Sun's brilliant rays fell upon the Earth, who was as fertile there as she was in the frigid north, and soon she became pregnant with her second child, a great plateau rising out of a vast network of canyons. One year later, as the Sun and Sky looked on, the great slab of rock cracked apart, and from it arose a creature, first and greatest of his kind. Colossal was he, with limbs thicker than the towering sandstone spires of the canyons amidst which he had been born, and tower did he over the great fissures walls. Eyes of two colors did he possess, one green as jade, the other yellow as amber. Shaking the dust out of his thick coat, streaked orange and black with iron, he did raise his majestic head on high and let the first roar loose from his golden fanged muzzle to echo across the vibrant jungles, filled as they were with the bright light of the Sun. Thus heralded the coming of Tiger.

And then, there was peace. The two gods continued their tasks, and the children of the sun and moon wandered about their domain, exploring and learning the world about them. Then, that peace was abruptly shattered. The phoenix fell to quarreling, and then, open fighting. The world went mad, and, with it, Wolf and Tiger. Confused and infuriated by the violence around them, both fell into a savage fury, and started hunting each other. Soon they, too, joined the great battle that raged, clashing in the skies overhead for centuries on end.

And then, ten great human sages came unto this world, and, in but a year, brought the war of ten centuries to its end. On the final bloody night, they captured Fortinbras, General of the god bird Kaos, and worked to seal him forever. Overhead, however, Wolf and Tiger, finally, after centuries of fighting, managed to land critical blows…at the same time. Wolf sized Tiger’s throat in his jaws as Tiger seized Wolf’s throat in his own maw. Great fangs of silver and gold sank into fur of granite and iron, and then, the sky rained blood.

Wolf’s blood landed in the forests, mountains, and frozen lakes of the frigid north, and from those splatters arose the wolves. Tiger’s blood landed in the jungles, canyons, and murky rivers of the south, and from those splatters arose the tigers. Where their blood mixed, mighty bears, brothers to both wolves and tigers, arose.

However.

One drop of Wolf’s blood fell amidst the bloody ceremony that the human Sages were carrying out, and landed in the mixed blood of the Sage’s Benglasse and Darkspear; from that pool arose the first wolf man, strong and fierce. And one drop of Tiger’s blood, too, fell amidst the Sage’s at their work, but landed in a pool of the mixed blood of Gottheit and Blackthorne; from this pool arose the first tiger man, proud and graceful.

And so the Great War of the Gods slammed to a halt, and with it went the madness consuming Wolf and Tiger. Sorely injured, but not mortally so, they released their death-grips upon one another throats, and came to an accord, making peace between them. They agreed that such a war must never be allowed to happen again, lest they get again get caught up in affairs not their own, and made a pact to prevent another at all costs. Tiger gathered his children, and headed back to the warm south, while Wolf led his own packs to the cold north.

Once they were sure their children would be fine, both decided to find a place of rest amongst the stars, the home of their fathers, so they might heal from their terrible injuries and keep watch over the world below. And so rest they still, to this day, in the stars above the lands of their children, patiently watching events below for any signs of a renewal of the Great War.
