Algeroth is an ancient landed formed from an ancient extinct volcano, which, after sinking back beneath the earth left the land extremely fertile. From the sky and the moon emerged the evil god, Kaos. And from the earth, and the molten beds of lava left from that ancient volcano, emerged the god of purity, and symbol of all things good, Naos, the Blessed One.
For many eons, this land was governed by the two gods in peace, until a great war broke loose slaughtering all life in it's path. The two gods raged, their generals, their armies, and all involved suffered great casulties. Eventually, it was a neutral party, the ten sages, that ceased the fighting. Naos' general believed in balance of all things, and if they could somehow dispose of the opposing general, The Old Guardian, Naos' general would lay down his sword. The sages succeeded and locked away the daemon general, Fortinbras inside the youngest member of the Clan Warheight, one of the families that produced a sage, and locked him away in a curse forever that would seal him in the most powerful member of the clan after that. Locking away the daemon killed the Warheight's sage, leaving the child as the most powerful, and gave him the curse. Since then, Naos blessed the land, allowing the Darkwood Forest to regrow upon the fertile soil from the ashes of the battle. He also cried for the loss of the Sage Warheight and for the abandoned child that was bourne of this tragedy. As Naos cried, the river that brings life began to flow, and on it's eastern bank was founded the kingdom that was the Warheight's reward for their sacrifice. Since that time, Algeroth, as the land is called, lived in relative peace. With the many races involved in the great war settling down in Darkwood Forest and founding Darkwatch, a stronghold in the trees. Past this stronghold lay a shrine dedicated in an underground lava pool to the god Naos to the east. And at the south of the river lay an island with an underground shrine dedicated to Kaos in the middle of a great lake where the pool of the gods' tears came to a rest.
As time when on the sages split up and many of their family lines have been lost to time, though before the death of each sage, a sacred tome was written in each's honor. The text was in Phoenician, the language of the gods, and explains all the greatest powers and achievements of each correlating sage. These books were scattered when the families split, and are the key to a mortal attaining ultimate power.
