The Palace of Splendors
« on: January 12, 2006, 04:07:07 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A heavy sun beat down upon the desert today, as a caravan crossed the desert. The men were sweaty and grimy, and all held scimitars sheathed at their side. They scratched beards and wiped sweat from their brow. They were tired from days of traveling. From the City of the 5 Trade winds, the largest Port in Xexoria, to the capital, Benglasse City. They had endured one bandit attack, driven off but not without four of their caravan guards having died.
Their camels crossed over a large sand dune, and they looked at the capital of Xexoria, Benglasse City. Ruby Walls surrounded the City and its 4 gates. They entered past soldiers, wearing the crest of the Benglasse Family; A White Emerald. The Palace of Splendors looked down on them as they entered. The most magnificent Palace, according to Xexorians, in the world! Its outside walls were made entirely out of Ruby, mined from the rich gems of Xexorias mines. The floors were made of Emerald, and Diamond Pillars held up the upper stories. From a window in the upper reaches, Jordan III watched.
Jordan III was the newest King of Xexoria. He had barely beaten Isabella from the throne. She had disapeared, he had no idea where she had gone to, but he didnt care. He paced back from the window in his throne room. 6 Palace Guard were in the room, two flanking his throne, two by the door, and two in the meeting hall between the throne and the doors. He was tall, Six feet four inches, with a muscular build from years of war and sword fighting. Tanned skin, but unlike many commoners, he was clean shaven. Dark brown eyes stared outside. Unlike the rest of the City, the Palace was kept cool by spells by former Archmages and Palace Mages. All except the gardens, whos water system was fully contained and kept the plants thriving. Princess Rylie of Jordan I had demanded that addition to the Palace, and her father had complied. It was now a favorite meeting place of Kings and Queens with City and Xexorian diplomats.
Jordan III had called for all loyal Cabinet members to meet him, but he didnt expect many to come. Some were to busy, and the King knew that. Still, he sat on his throne and thought hard. The army was recruiting, and the Navy building new ships and training new officers. Things were good for Xexoria, but they needed to get better. He would make sure of it.

A dark room, deep within the earth, below the dank dungeons of the palace. The place of the Emerald Knights, a room which little more than the knights knew how to get to. There was no single door, no long hallway that led to it. The palace was indeed a palace in all respects including the abundant secret passages which had been built into it. The room had a fog which seemed to cling to the floor, seeming to never move, held in place by the chill in the air. A green light radiated from the center of the room, a large emerald was set into a table here and an unknown light source caused the dull green light to move about the room. The light did little to dispel the darkness in the room, it merely gave the illusion of sight into thick shadows which were cast about the room. The depth of the shadows hid anything that might be in them, though the sound of a door quickly opening and closing was often heard, followed by the same sound a few moments later.
It was in this room that a young man stood, emerging from the shadows and standing before the table. His boots clicked noisily against the stone floor, the scorched metal plating causing a slight ringing noise. A black cloak fit about him, his silver hair and eyes catching the dull green light and sparkling dimly. Beneath the cloak was a sleeveless crimson shirt, stopped by a dark green wrap around belt at his waist. His pants were the same crimson color, falling away from his body until meeting his boots where they were tucked into slightly, excess material falling over the top of the metal and leather boots. Currently Kataroe was fiddling with an ear ring. A simple semi-circle with a spike at each end. This was pushed through his right ear, his left already had a simple black ball through his ear lobe along with a metal clamp on the cartlidge at the top of ear. He finished screwing the spike on and placed his hands upon the table. It was as though his hand touching the table had been a signal for as soon as it happened, two doors opened and shut and two men emerged from the shadows.
"There is a new king as you both know, and apparently it is some sort of formal thing that I am to go and swear my allegience to him. I'm not going alone because it would look bad, and if I have to go through with this someone else is too." Kataroe said with a grin on his face. "And I don't want an arguement out of either of you, besides you were both lazing about today anyway." The silver haired youth said with a nod walking into the shadows followed quickly by the other two men who were cloaked in black, even their faces were hidden behind black masks. Kataroe walked and crawled through a series of tunnels until he stepped out into the corridor which led directly into the throne room. His boots clicked against the emerald floor while the two men walked silently behind him. The two guards which stood before the double doors were a bit confused as they saw the three approaching, they had simply appeared from no where and showed no sign of stopping to announce themselves. The two guards found themselves pushed aside by the group.
The double doors swung open and the Captain of the Emerald Knights along with two of the knights themselves stepped into the room. Kataroe walked up to the King, stopping a few feet infront of him. The two nameless knights stopped halfway across the room and kneeled. Their Captain showed little sign of kneeling though, he offered a simple bow his eyes upon the king and his guards at all times while he was in such a vulnerable position (from which he quickly returned to an upright position.) "King Jordan III, I am Kataroe, Captain of the Emerald Knights. I have come here to offer our allegience, to become your knife in the dark." Kataroe said taking a step back.

The Guards of the Palace throneroom looked surprised, and held their swords tight as the Emerald Knights walked to the throne. Jordan III looked more curious than threatened. If they did indeed attack him, he could defend himself, as could his guard. His eyes looked curiously at him, eyeing the odd earing and the look of him. He didnt look important at all, more like a gangster. Still, one guard, an Emerald Knight in actuallity, nodded to Jordan from behind them. Jordan smirked and stood up. He walked foward from his seat on the throne, and held out a hand to Kataroe. The guards relaxed. "Welcome then, Captain. Know that I shall call upon your services as often as possible, and as often as needed." he ran a hand through his hair and smirked back at the throne.
There were two thrones. One designated for the King, and another for the Prince. There was no throne for the Queen, she sat behind the scenes. He turned to look back at Kataroe. "For several years the throne has been contested, and now it is not. I will make sure it is never contested again. I want you to help me keep this throne. I need allies." he said sitting back on the throne. The look on his face was a look of cool complacency. A servant brought a tray of Coranian wine to the meeting, and Jordan took a glass. "I need, Foreign allies." he said sipping the wine and admiring the taste. The servant, a young girl, not even 10, bowed her head as she brought a glass for Kataroe and his men. "To do this, I need information of foreign nations on the many continents we have yet to explore. I want the Emerald Knights to join merchant vessels leaving Thule," he said refering to the continent Xexoria resided on. "And explore distant nations. Find out their strengths, weaknesses, religion, rulers, everything about them. Find out who would make good allies...and whos lands would make good colonies. Do you understand?"

Syrus II, having recently taken on the first name of his father, former king of Algeroth pronounced his presence to the guards and walked through between them followed by his accomplices and new additions to the Palace Guard, Sarah and Serge Ravenshield, former leaders of the Algeroth Royal Command trotted along behind the man who towered before them, and grinned at the guards as if to show that they were not so rude as were the predecessors that had by all means stormed into the Palace from nowhere. Syrus himself standing in the middle and in front of slightly the other two was a muscular 6'2 roughly and overshadowed the shorter two easily. He was clad in the Royal Phoenician Armor of his kingdom, the only set ever forged, solid black with not helm and a large golden phoenix imbellished betwixt his shoulder blades that was covered by the even more glorious broadsword, 'Oblivion' of which he was so fond of to train for so long to account for it's massive weight. He had stepped down from his throne and left it to the people for which he loved so much, after his father's death he had made a solemn vow to better himself and become as fit a ruler as his father was, all the while chasing his notorious murderer-brother, Sieg.
His footsteps made somewhat of an iron clunk against the ground as his grieves that were used to the bare granite of his own palice floor stepped carefully upon the jeweled ground of this new court. As he passed between the two black persons that had followed the other man in, his subjects stopped behind them and watched as Syrus himself approached the throne with a half-hearted kneel so as to keep his eyes on the intrusive, and needless to say untrustworthy looking fellows who were already there.
"Good day, I trust." An informal gesture of conversation to the stranger before addressing the king, "I apologize my king for not having announced this man's presence, I was not aware there were so many entrances into this castle. I just saw him approaching the door, and wanted to make sure all was alright." As the new Captain of the Palace Guard he wanted to make a good impression on his master, but somehow the stranger had exhibited an entrance unnoticed even to Syrus' keen senses, until he was already inside, a strange thing indeed.

kataroe_x (1/16/2006 9:25:18 PM): Kataroe nodded to Jordan, dismissing the offer of wine with a simple wave. He had no interest in wine, it was a mind altering substance and a sharp mind was the best friend of an Emerald Knight. "My men will be moving out as soon as possible." Kataroe said, turning his head only slightly as the doors to the throne room opened and a large burly man entered with two smaller soldier's following behind. "Fine day it is." He said giving a small hand gesture that his two escorts caught, their hands delving into their cloaks and two large puffs of smoke burst forth around them. It quickly cleared but the two men were no longer there. "As for the secret passages leading into this room, there are many and you will be hard pressed to find many who could guide you through them." Kataroe said sizing the man quickly before returning his gaze to the king. "As for my prescence here, I was invited. As Captain of the Royal Guard you should familiarize yourself with the King's appoitments." A content smirk formed on his face with the last statement. <e>
jordan_the_third (1/16/2006 9:38:16 PM): : Jordan III nodded to the wine bearer that she could leave, setting his half-empty glass on her tray before she left. He nodded in approval, and then looked up when Serge and his two family walked into the room. Their conversation was, a tad bit heated, and Jordan felt obligated to step in. "Lord Cyrus here," he said butting in, "Has only been captain for a few days. I invited him here from Algeroth...he just lost a civil war. His family and mine have always been friends, so I asked him to take up the position Slade lost when he died in the war." he said and stood up. "Lord Kataroe, meet Lord Cyrus II. Your counterpart among the Emerald Knights." he said clapping them both on the shoulder. "Lord Cyrus, would you like some wine? I can ask the servants to return." he said, gesturing to the hall way the servant had left from. <e>
mastermind_the_sage (1/16/2006 9:49:52 PM): : He dismissed the wine with a soft gesture to the flask at his waist, "I only drink my own brand, a glass of wine is a poisoned cup just waiting to be consumed." He laughed heartily and glanced back toward the king after having exchanged glances with the Emerald Knight known as Kataroe. He shifted his head ever-so-slightly so as to flick his long jet black hair from before his azure orbs so that they might scan over the magnificence of the throne room more thoroughly and also to better keep an eye on the mysterious personel of the Emerald Knights. After having bowed and made all the necessary formalities, he smiled eagerly and thanked the king for having him as the Captain of the Guard. " Me and my party appreciate the offer of Palace Guard and we would just like to present to you a small token of our gratification as well as tracking our guest here. Serge and Sarah stepped forward having disclosed a large clothed object that had been betwixt them upon their approach but overshadowed by Syrus' body. They walked it upon the throne and Syrus pulled the cloth uncovering a gleaming golden shield of a golden coloration but strange material that was embellished heavily in obsidian and jewels. "This is a treasure from our Royal vault, the shield of my father and a momento from my people. We do not expect you to wield it if you do not wish but it bares exceptional defensive properties which I will make you aware in a more...private conversation." He gave a nervous glance to the stranger and then back to the king himself. <E>

Jordan III stood there, looking dumd struck. He nodded, and stepped foward to take the Shield. He held it in his left hand, feeling the weight of it. It suited him well, and he could feel the magic in its enchantment. "I thank you Syrus, I shall wield it gladly into battle." he sat back down and placed the shield upright against the throne, next to his feet, an easy reach for him. "In the meantime," he said watching them both. "We need to be prepared. Kataroe, I want you on the next ship for the Pangea continent. There is a Kingdom there I hear. One in turmoil." he said, emphazizing the word.
"50 Marines are undercover on that ship. Enough for a good advance force to explore the situation. If we can send troops to aid the Kingdom and gain an ally, send word back and the Navy shall be sent to reinforce you." He said, eyes looking between the two of them. "Lord Cyrus, send one of your family here to go with him. As his second in command. he could use another skilled warrior."

"Yes M'lord, but as my family has just arrived here, I would like them to remain in the castle, and learn what they can. You will find that they can absorb an enormous amount of information in a short amount of time, and to split them up would be leaving them vulnerable in a new land. I would suggest going myself as a pledge of allegience as your new Captain, It would be my honor." He did a small formal kneel and turned to his cousins. "Sarah, Serge, what do you think." "We would be honored to stand in your place as the King's personal guard." barked Serge almost mechanically. "And I would love to get my hands on some of the history of this place in the Library, and speak to some of the guardsmen." Spoke Sarah in a calmer, smoother tone, nothing like the quip of a soldier, but was understandable as she spent a majority of her time travelling, and did not respond to authority much except Syrus, and of course whoever he told her to respect. Syrus turned, careful not to scratch the surface of the emerald floor with his heavy grieves and nodded to him as he stepped aside awaiting any further orders for himself or the twins.

The doors swinged open into the room with a cricking filling the silence of the room that had come over it in that moment. Foot steps were heard rushing forward through the gathering crowd, but soon stopped with a guard appearing near the king his head bowed did he stay this away till Jordan told him to rise, and request the reason for the interuption. Feet were fidgeting against the floor, his eyes occasionally scanning towards the enterance were more foot falls were heard coming down the hallway towards the room. In the enterance soon came three cloaked figures with their heads at first bowed, but soon they rised with a glow being seen to their eyes for a moment they they surveyed the room, and it's habitants. They brought their eyes towards each other then giving a nod as if agreeing to each others thoughts. Each figure moved to the side while the one at the center turned passing between two black panther that had come as if from the shadows behind them, their eyes seemed so hostile when eyeing the room of humans. But at the door near the shadows as if one with them did the two cats stay, their heads brushed against the side of the third figure when he passed between them back down the hallway.
Voices low could be slightly heard; One male and other female. <Male> " M'lady it would seem they are busy at the momeny. Are you sure you wish to enter this room? I feel a sense of trouble is here but from whom I can not say." his voice was stern almost demanding the female to turn away from her destination. <Lynette> " Hush Hexter we are here for a reason. I will face what might lay ahead. This court was home to both my parents, and I shall do my duty to Xexoria if it's called upon me" her tone was angered yet still calm when speaking to the male. Movement was heard when the cloaked figure returned blocking the view for this time till it was requested that they introduce themselves.

"Indeed, I would also enjoy the added company. Most of my guard are very dull." he looked at Sarah for a moment and was delighted at her words. "I would be honored to take you to the libraries myself. I enjoy history as-" he was cutt off, and He was not pleased by the loud interuption, but took it anyway. He grunted to the guard to return to his post. He peered closely at the hooded figures walking towards them. "Lord Syrus..." he gestured. He was in charge of security of course. "Search them please." he said, leaning back in his throne. There had been rumor of an assasination plot, and he wanted to be careful.
He watched them closely, the two Throne Guard closing in on the King, flanking him directly. His eyes rested for a moment upon the second, hearing their hushed whispers as inaudible.
